The root seems to mean root, artery. The one example in this article, which claims the root means "coast", seems to embody a confusion.

- @Chrisrushlau: Nobody of us was confused, I only expressed definitions found in Classical Arabic dictionaries, regard their English translator Lane, Edward William (1863) “عراق”, in Arabic-English Lexicon[1], London: Williams & Norgate, page 2021. Oliver Kahl (next page, not in the Google Preview), also translates “those who dwell on the shore“. “Root; artery” is عِرْق (ʕirq). Fay Freak (talk) 14:13, 8 March 2024 (UTC)
