Etymology

Borrowed from English folklore with a spelling pronunciation. Doublet of Volklehre; not to be confused with Volkslehre (“ethnology”), a term now associated with Nazism.

1. popular tales, music, festivals, clothing, etc.; old traditions and customs; folklore

   Synonyms: Tradition, Volkstradition, (chiefly customs) Brauchtum

2. (more negative) the artificial perpetuation of customs, their mere imitation or re-enactment
