From Middle High German entrech, entreich, antrache, from Old High German antrahho, anetrehho, anutrehho (male duck, drake), from Proto-West Germanic *anadrekō (duck leader).

Cognate with dialectal German Drache (male duck, drake), Low German drake (male duck, drake), Middle English drake (male duck). By surface analysis, Ente +‎ -rich. More at drake.
