• Possibly also a Maltese form of Sicilian Bug(g)ea, from Ancient Greek βουκαῖος (boukaîos, “cowherd”) (see βουκόλος (boukólos)).
• Also from Italian (Sicilian and Salentine) bbuggia (“poacher's bag”).
