[edit]Ultimately from Proto-Slavic *berstьje (compare Belarusian Бе́расце (Bjérascje), Ukrainian Бере́стя (Beréstja)), from *berstъ.[1] Doublet of brzost, Brzeszcze, Brześce, Brzeście, Brzeźce, and Brzyście.
