Etymology[edit]

First attested as boychoyt in 1369. Originally a compound of boek (beech, Fagus sp.) and holt (rising forest). The second element was later reinterpreted as end (end). Compare Lieseind, Lieshout, Liessent, Ulvend and Vaareind.
