Etymology[edit]
Either adé (“royalty, crown”) + ṣí (“to open”) + ọ̀nà (“path, road”), literally “Royalty has opened the way” or a- (“agent prefix”) + dé (“to arrive”) + ṣí (“to meet”) + ọ̀nà (“joy”), literally “The one who comes and opens the way”, usually given to the first child born to a family (who "opens" the way for more children to follow).
