Etymology[edit]
From เจ้า (jâao, “lord”) + ฟ้า (fáa, “sky; heaven”); literally "lord of heaven", "celestial lord", etc. Compare Burmese စော်ဘွား (caubhwa:), Khmer ចៅហ្វា (cawhviə), Lao ເຈົ້າຟ້າ (chao fā), Shan ၸဝ်ႈၽႃႉ (tsāo phâ̰a).
