[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Middle Bengali সোঝা (śōjha), from Prakrit 𑀲𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀛𑀓 (sŏjjhaka), from 𑀲𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀛 (sŏjjha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit शोध्य (śodhya, “to be cleansed, purified”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćawdʰyás, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱewdʰyós, from *ḱewdʰ- (“to clean, purify”), an extension of *ḱew- (“to shine”). Cognate with Assamese সজা (xoza), Odia ସୋଜା (sojā), Maithili सोझ (sōjh), Bhojpuri सोझ (sōjh), Gujarati સોજું (sojũ), Hindi सोझा (sojhā), Nepali सोजो (sojo), Punjabi ਸੋਝਾ (sojhā), Lahnda ساوجھآ (sojhā).
