Inherited from Early Assamese বিহা (biha), from Sanskrit ৱিৱাহ (vivāha). Cognate with Kamta বেহা (beha), Sylheti ꠛꠤꠀ (bia), Bengali বিয়ে (biẏe), Hindi ब्याह (byāh). Doublet of বিবাহ (bibah).
