ریاضیات (riyâziyyât)

  1. mathematics
    • c. 1423, Ğiyās-ud-Dīn Jamshēd Kāšī, translated by Mohammad Bagheri, Letter to his father, quoted in “A Newly Found Letter of Al-Kashı on Scientific Life in Samarkand”:
از آنجمله پانصد کس باشند که ایشانرا در ریاضیات شروع است واکنون دوازده سال است که بندگی حضرت سلطنت پناهی کشور گشایی خلد الله ملکه بدین فن مشغول است.
az ān-jumla pānsad kas bāšand ki ēšān-rā dar riyāziyyāt šurū' ast w-aknūn duwāzdah sāl ast ki bandagī-yi hazrat-i saltanat panāhē kišwar gušāyī xallad allāhu mulkahu badīn fann mašğūl ast.
Among them there are five hundred persons who have begun [to study] mathematics. His Royal Majesty the World-Conqueror [lit. “the Servitude of the Presence of the Refuge of the Sultanate, Conqueror of Countries”], may God perpetuate his reign, has been engaged in this art [i.e., mathematics] for the last twelve years.
