Etymology[edit]

Perhaps from Proto-Iranian *HáHtr̥š (fire, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eh₁ter-) + *gar- (to kindle, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰer-).[1] Not found in Middle Persian; first attested in Daqīqī, in the mid-late 900s.
