From Middle Iranian *dānak, from Old Iranian *dāna-ka-, from Proto-Iranian *dā- (to cut), from Proto-Indo-European *deh₂- (to share, divide), whence also Sanskrit दा (√dā, to cut, cut off), Persian داس (dâs, sickle), داره (dâra, scythe, sickle).[1] Old Georgian დანაკი (danaḳi) is borrowed from the same source.
