Borrowed from Romanian cireașă, from Vulgar Latin ceresia, from the neuter plural of Late Latin ceresium, from Latin cerasium, from Ancient Greek κεράσιον (kerásion, cherry), from κερασός (kerasós, bird cherry).[1]
