From Polish sarna, from Proto-Slavic *sьrna; cf. Ukrainian са́рна (sárna) and Russian сарна́ (sarná), which were also borrowed from Polish. Doublet of се́рна (sjérna), cognate with Russian се́рна (sérna), which were inherited from Proto-Slavic.
