Possibly from a Proto-Slavic *pervortъ. Compare Serbo-Croatian пре̏вра̄т / prȅvrāt, Polish przewrót, Czech převrat; see also the adjective превра́тный (prevrátnyj), borrowed from Old Church Slavonic прѣвратьнъ (prěvratĭnŭ).
