Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Ruthenian мы́тница (mýtnica), from Old East Slavic мꙑтьница (mytĭnica), from Proto-Slavic *mytьnica. By surface analysis, ми́то (mýto) +‎ -ниця (-nycja). Cognate with Bulgarian ми́тница (mítnica), Old Church Slavonic мꙑтьница (mytĭnica).
