From Standard Turkic *bẹšik (cradle), probably from Proto-Turkic *bẹĺčig (cradle).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (bešik, cradle);[1] Tatar бишек (bişek), Kazakh бесік (besık), Kyrgyz бешик (beşik), Uzbek beshik, Uyghur بۆشۈك (böshük), Azerbaijani beşik, Turkish beşik, Khakas пизік (pizìk), Tofa беӌик, Yakut биһик (bihik, cradle); Chuvash пелче (pelč̬e, swaddling clothes), also Hungarian bölcső (cradle) (an Onogur borrowing).
