[edit]Ultimately from Ancient Greek ἀκροστιχίς (akrostikhís). Possible intermediate borrowing from Russian акрости́х (akrostíx). Cognates include Serbo-Croatian а̏кростих, Macedonian акростих (akrostih), Modern Greek ακροστιχίδα (akrostichída).
