Inherited from Byzantine Greek γκουβέρνο (nkoubérno) from Old Italian guberno, from Latin gubernum[1] or an αντιδάνειο (antidáneio, repatriated loanword)[2] borrowed from Italian governo m, from Latin gubernum n, from Latin gubernō (verb), from Ancient Greek κυβερνῶ (kubernô, verb).
