[edit]Inherited from Byzantine Greek ἀρνί(ν) (arní(n)), from Ancient Greek ἀρνίον (arníon), diminutive or hypocoristic form of ἀρήν (arḗn), from Proto-Hellenic *warḗn, from *wr̥h₁ḗn (“lamb”). Cognate with Mariupol Greek арны́ (arný).
