Etymology

From Ancient Greek ἀναλῶ (analô), contracted form of ἀνᾱλόω (anālóō), a form of ἀνᾱλίσκω (anālískō, spend). The mediaeval form is ἀναλώνω (analṓnō), contemporary script, αναλώνω (analóno).
