Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek ἀναιμίᾱ (anaimíā) from ἄναιμος (ánaimos, bloddless) and semantic loan from French anémie from Ancient Greek ἀναιμίᾱ (anaimíā). Prefix αν- (an-, a privative) + see αἷμα (haîma).
