Etymology

Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ἀνέρχομαι (anérkhomai). By surface analysis, αν- (an-, up) +‎ έρχομαι (érchomai, come), with the prefix a variant of ανα- (ana-, up).
For sense amount: Semantic loan from French s’élever.[1]
