Etymology
[edit]Inherited from the mediaeval Byzantine Greek ἄντρας (ántras), from the Ancient Greek ἄνδρα (ándra), accusative singular of ἀνήρ (anḗr), retaining the ancient pronunciation [nd] of ⟨νδ⟩ written as ⟨ντ⟩. [1][2] Compare to άνδρας (ándras). Cognate with Mariupol Greek а́ндра (ándra).
