[edit]From Proto-Mon-Khmer *t₁ac (“to break, be severed”); cognate with Muong Bi tếch, Khmer ដាច់ (dac), Koho tac (“to cut”), Halang kơtĕk (“to snap, to break (rope)”), Khasi thait (“to snap”), Khmu tec ("torn raggedly"). Compare also dứt.
