Tocharian A

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Tocharian *āknātsā, probably corresponding to Proto-Indo-European *n̥-ǵneh₃-tih₂, from *ǵneh₃- (know), deriving its meaning from that of "ignorant". Compare Sanskrit अज्ञात (ájñāta, unknown), Latin īgnōtus (unknown, ignorant), Ancient Greek ἄγνωτος (ágnōtos, unknown, also ignorant). Compare Tocharian B aknātsa.
