[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Ancient Greek Αἰθιοπία (Aithiopía), from Αἰθίοψ (Aithíops, “an Ethiopian”), traditionally said to mean "one with a charred complexion", from αἴθω (aíthō, “I burn”) + ὤψ (ṓps, “eye, face, complexion”), but this is formally difficult and seems like a folk etymology.
