[edit]semivacancy (plural semivacancies)
- (physics) A vacancy defect in which two adjacent lattice sites are unoccupied and an atom occupies the interstitial site between the two vacant sites.
- Coordinate terms: monovacancy, divacancy, trivacancy
- 2008, Edmund G. Seebauer, Meredith C. Kratzer, Charged Semiconductor Defects: Structure, Thermodynamics and Diffusion, page 219:
- The semivacancies are separated by a variable number of Ge adatoms in metastable T4 positions and can diffuse or eventually merge back into a single vacancy.
- 2012, D. Shaw, Atomic Diffusion in Semiconductors, page 234:
- In the undistorted configurations both a divacancy and a semivacancy pair belong to the symmetry point group D3d .
