[edit]Inherited from Vulgar Latin *reiectāre, from Latin reiectus (“thrown back; rejected”), perfect passive participle of reiciō (“to throw back; to repel; to reject”), from re- (“re-”) + iaciō (“to throw; to hurl”). Cognate with Galician rexeitar.
