[edit]Inherited from Latin pulmōnem, accusative of pulmō, probably through metathesis from a Vulgar Latin root *plumonem (compare Sicilian primuni, Sardinian primone), or less likely from Greek πλεμόνι (plemóni). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pléwmō. Compare Aromanian pãlmunã.
