Etymology

[edit]

Possibly borrowed from Albanian nepërkë (adder, viper), otherwise cognate to it, from fuller nepërtkë, originally ‘hatchling snake’, maybe from Proto-Slavic *nepъrtъkъ (compare Bulgarian непрътък (neprǎtǎk, buttercup)). Compare Aromanian nipãrticã.
