Spanish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Spanish finchar, from Latin īnflāre (“to inflate something, blow into it”). The phonetic development involved consonant spread of the medial [f], namely via *hinhláɾe or *finfláɾe, cf. hallar, and see also henchir. Doublet of borrowed inflar. Cognate with English inflate, Romanian umfla, French enfler.
