[edit]Calque of Korean 섬짱깨 (seomjjangkkae),chó (“dog”) + đảo (“island”) + tàu (“ship, extended meaning 'Chink'”). Many Chinese refugees came to Vietnam in boats during the Qing Dynasty and were known for transporting goods by boat.
