[edit]Calque of Latin bonus nuntius (“good news”), literal translation of Ancient Greek εὐαγγέλιον (euangélion, “good news”). Cognate with English gospel and good news, French bonne nouvelle, Portuguese boas novas, and Italian buone notizie.
