Etymology

From arms + possibly Hindustani کوٹ / कोट (koṭ, fort, barracks), ultimately from Proto-Dravidian *kōṭṭay (wall). Compare Tamil கோட்டை (kōṭṭai, fort, castle, stronghold). Alternatively, from Hindi कोठा (koṭhā, warehouse) or a related cognate.
