Background
[edit]The Khiamniungan Naga (IPA(key): /kʰiɑm³³.ɲu⁵⁵.ŋn⁵⁵ ˈnɑ³³.ɡə³³/) are a major Naga ethnic group native to the Noklak district of Nagaland in Northeast India. The majority of this community speaks Patsho Khiamniungan in India; especially those people living in the west and south, sparingly those in the east, and a handful of people in the north are native to this tongue. The name Khiam-niu-ngan literally means “great water source”. This community celebrates cultural festivals invoking blessings for a rich harvest such as Tsōukūm and Miu, which are correlated to each other, and the merrymaking festival Khāutsāusîe, celebrated each year in the month of January.
