1. ושא אללה אן יכון נור פכאן נור׃

     ושא אללה אן יכון נור פכאן נור׃

     wašāʾa llāhu ʾan yakūna nūrun fakāna nūrun.

     And God willed there to be light, and then there was light.

1. הדׄה אסמא בני אסראיל אלדאכׄלין אלי מצר מע יעקוב רגׄל ואלה דכׄלו׃

     הדׄה אסמא בני אסראיל אלדאכׄלין אלי מצר מע יעקוב רגׄל ואלה דכׄלו׃

     hāḏihi ʾasmāʾu banī ʾisrāʾīla d-dāḵilīna ʾilā miṣra maʿa yaʿqūba rajulun waʾilluhu daḵalū.

     These are the names of the sons of Israel entering Egypt. With Jacob, man and his kin entered:

2. תׄם מאת יוסף וגׄמיע אכׄותה וגׄמיע אהל דׄלך אלגׄיל׃
   • c. 10th century, Saadia Gaon, Tafsir‎^[3], Exodus 1:6:

     תׄם מאת יוסף וגׄמיע אכׄותה וגׄמיע אהל דׄלך אלגׄיל׃

     ṯumma māta yūsufu wajamīʿu ʾiḵwatihi wajamīʿu ʾahli ḏālika l-jīli.

     Then Joseph died and all his brethren and all the people of that generation.

3. ובנו אסראיל אתׄמרו וסעו וכתׄרו ועטׄמו גׄדא גׄדא ואמתלי דׄלך אלבלד מנהם׃

     ובנו אסראיל אתׄמרו וסעו וכתׄרו ועטׄמו גׄדא גׄדא ואמתלי דׄלך אלבלד מנהם׃

     wabanū ʾisrāʾīla ʾaṯmarū wasaʿaw wakaṯurū waʿaẓamū jiddan jiddan wamtalā ḏālika l-baladu minhum.

     And the sons of Israel were fruitful, and strove, and were numerous, and were very, very mighty, and that country was full of them.

4. וקאם מלך גׄדיד עלי מצר מן לם ישאהד יוסף׃
   • c. 10th century, Saadia Gaon, Tafsir‎^[5], Exodus 1:8:

     וקאם מלך גׄדיד עלי מצר מן לם ישאהד יוסף׃

     waqāma malikun jadīdun ʿalā miṣra man lam yušāhid yūsufa.

     And a new king arose over Egypt who had not witnessed Joseph.

5. וקאל לקומה הודׄא קום בני אסראיל אכתׄר ואעטׄם מנא׃

     וקאל לקומה הודׄא קום בני אסראיל אכתׄר ואעטׄם מנא׃

     waqāla liqawmihi huwaḏā qawmu banī ʾisrāʾīla ʾakṯaru waʾaʿẓamu minnā.

     And he said to his people: Behold the people of the sons of Israel are greater and mightier than us.

1. תׄם קאל אללה למוסי אדכׄל אלי פרעון פאני קד קוית קלבה וקלב קואדה לכי אחל אפאתי הדׄה בהם׃

     תׄם קאל אללה למוסי אדכׄל אלי פרעון פאני קד קוית קלבה וקלב קואדה לכי אחל אפאתי הדׄה בהם׃

     ṯumma qāla llāhu limūsā dḵul ʾilā firʿawna faʾinnī qad qawwaytu qalbahu waqalba quwwādihi likay ʾuḥilla ʾāfātī hāḏihi bahum.

     Then God said to Moses: Come to Pharaoh for I have just strengthened his heart and the the heart of his commanders so that I might set upon them these my plagues.

1. חינידׄ סבח מוסי ובנו אסראיל בהדׄא אלתסביח ללה וקאלו׃

     חינידׄ סבח מוסי ובנו אסראיל בהדׄא אלתסביח ללה וקאלו׃

     ḥīnaʾiḏin sabbaḥa mūsā wabanū ʾisrāʾīla bihāḏā t-tasbīḥi lillāhi waqālū.

     Thereupon praised Moses and the sons of Israel by this praise to God and said:
