Usage
This template is used in the entries for Chinese characters to give Vietnamese readings. These readings are referred to as Sino-Vietnamese or Hán Việt. They allow Chinese characters to be transliterated into the Vietnamese alphabet, similar to the way pinyin allows Chinese characters to be read by English-speakers.
The template has two parameters: the first is mandatory, the Latin script form, the second is optional, a gloss (that is, a brief reminder of the definition).
