Template:egy-h

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary
(Redirected from Template:egy-glyph)

This template generates hieroglyphic output based on an input string encoded according to the Manuel de Codage (MdC) format. Not all MdC functions are currently supported, but the template can do everything that WikiHiero can do and more; see the WikiHiero syntax page for basic functionality, and the notes below for additional functionality beyond what WikiHiero supports.

Note that the redirect {{egy-glyph}} is deprecated and is kept for historical interest and for the sake of preserving the intelligibility of some old discussions and old page revisions.

Parameters

|1= (required)
Manuel de Codage input.
|2= (optional)
The outputting style of the hiteroglyphs. Leave blank or set to w to output WikiHiero-style hieroglyphs. Set to u to output Unicode glyphs.

Differences from WikiHiero

  • Many more glyphs are supported compared to basic WikiHiero. If these additional glyphs are not grouped in a quadrat with other glyphs, they can be input normally using their Gardiner codes (or Hieroglyphica codes, for glyphs beyond Gardiner). If they are grouped with other glyphs, the whole group must be preceded by a tilde (~), but otherwise they remain input normally.
  • Bracket output is corrected. [[-]] gives
    [[]]
    , [{-}] gives
    [{}]
    , [&-&] gives
    [&Ba16a
    , ["-"] gives
    Ba18Ba18a
    , and ['-'] gives
    Ba19Ba19a
. Small brackets can be produced by adding an s at the end: [[s-]]s
    Ba15sBa15as
    .
  • The template can also output Unicode glyphs instead of extended WikiHiero if desired, although right now this functionality is slow and could stand to be optimized.
