Removed definition

As per Connel's request, here's the def that I removed:

My opinion is that this is no simply an unfortunate opinion, but that this is in fact not a definition of the term so much as an opinion of the people that the term defines. Or, to put it another way, this is no more a definition that "slimy scumbag with greaseball hair" could be a definition of Italian American. Both are opinions that people have of the category of people in question, but their representation belongs on the Wikipedia, if anywhere at all, not on Wiktionary.

The "vandal" as you call it, was probably me (inadvertently.) The anonymous contributor added a line of text in the translations section. When I saw the newcomer mistake, I quickly looked at the line they contributed. The heavy POV of the line removed (above) was from my re-writing that meaning. I was trying to capture another sense of the term that perhaps is only a subtle connotation. The original wording was as follows:

Vegatarian= person who wants to make a difference and cares for lifes other then those of humans

Now, that does not convey "hates humans." The spirit of what I had hoped to capture was the inherent hypocrisy of someone caring for animals out of "humanitarianism" to the point of seriously challenging human survival. Alas, I screwed it up pretty badly. I guess that was partly from trying to convey a connotation within a meaning, at the same time that I was trying to adapt the sense that was added by the anon. I also incorrectly assumed they were trying to add that sense, or something like it. That is, the meaning of a vegetarian as an animal lover/animal "rights" advocate, as opposed to the more common meaning of vegetarian; someone who eats vegetables. In my mind, those are quite distinct meanings. It looked like that was what they were trying to convey.

Having mangled it so badly on my last attempt, I'll let someone else try to restore it, cleaned up and reworded. Any takers? --Connel MacKenzie 11:13, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Antonyms mistake

  It is not a mistake. That is a gloss to match one of the definitions; not the meaning of the antonyms. --EncycloPetey 08:20, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
