"Romantic" languages are those which descended directly from Latin dialects. I think the term has to do with "Rome" or "Roman" rather then "romance." I'm not positive, though.

You are correct: "Romance" languages, and the core sense of the numerous other uses of Romantic, indeed derive from "Roman" language and culture.
