Why does pommes frites in mean fried potatoes in French rather than fried apples? What would you say if you DID want to say fried apples in French, and not be misunderstood?

It's an abbreviation, the same way we say "fries" instead of "French fries" perhaps. Regarding fried apples, see [1]. Equinox 00:39, 18 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
