No OneLook reference except us thinks this is an idiom. DCDuring TALK

It doesn't refer to clergy or to periods of time. Keep (and frankly I might merge the non-professional and lacking expertise senses of layman). DAVilla 05:22, 6 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
