The reason was that, in the lower strata of Oslo society, especially among the working class, it used to be popular to give children English first names, such as Harry. The middle and upper classes preferred Scandinavian or German names, or occasionally French. The slang term harry then came to be used by upper-class youth in Oslo in the early 1900s to refer pejoratively to the working class people. —Stephen ^(Talk) 06:21, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
