1. You can not assert something is "never written in hiragana" just because it is "a nonstandard spelling".

@Huhu9001: it's odd since the Kotobank entry (all three dictionaries) has shishamo written in katakana. The Jitenon kokugo jiten has a section called 読み方 (yomikata, “pronunciation”) which is totally in hiragana. Take for example this entry, which is translated as "rescue team", that does not have yet an article: レスキュー隊（れすきゅーたい）.
