urination

[edit]

i read somewhere that the compass and diabetes meanings are linked, the latter derived from the former, because when men stand to urinate they typically separate their legs a bit somewhat like a compass. thus this would be a euphemism for urination. this makes more sense to me than "step across", "pass over", referring directly to the disease. has anyone else hread this? thanks. wikipedia suggests it might be a euphemism for urination in general, here, but im skeptical because it wouldnt explain the other senses, and βαίνω does really seem to mean "walk, step", not "pass, go" as might be expected for urine. Soap 22:28, 18 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
