Etymology

    From *w̥aq- / *pʰʷa- (bird prefix) + *kʰʲaj. Chug-Lish reflexes the former and Mey-Sartang reflexes the latter.

    The second element is cognate with Dikhyang Bugun kʰe (chicken), and probably Chinese (MC kej).
