[edit]From *slēxs- + *-antī (body part suffix), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)pléygʰ-s-, from *(s)pleygʰ- (“to go, move”) (compare Sanskrit: प्लेहते (plehate)). Cognate with Ancient Greek πλιχάς (plikhás, “space between thighs”), πλίσσομαι (plíssomai, “to cross the legs”).[1]
