[edit]Ancient Greek ῠ̔́δᾰτος, ῠ̔́δωρ n (húdatos, húdōr, “water”) + Ancient Greek φῠ́λᾰξ m (phúlax, “guard, sentry”). Ancient Greek φῠ́λᾰξ (phúlax) is commonly used in names of genera of northern caddisflies.
